六零年代,非裔美籍的音樂家,把當時的靈魂樂、靈魂爵士樂、以及節奏藍調,加重的節奏的部份,而形成了一個全新的樂種------“放克”。
在放克中,電貝斯佔了相當重要的位置,作為放克音樂中”律動” 的基礎,而電吉他則僅僅是用來刷節奏的。
詹姆士布朗在1965年及1967年發行的兩張專輯,開始加入了放克的元素,而在1970年發行的” Get Up (I Feel Like Being A) Sex Machine”,更是放克史上最重要的一張專輯。
七零年代可說是放克的全盛時期,並影響了後來的迪士可音樂。雖然現今的放克音樂已經不如過去般盛行,但放克已經漸漸變成一種音樂元素,不少搖滾樂團將之融合成為放克搖滾甚是放克金屬;英國也把放克改良成了”酸爵士”;更有不少嘻哈樂手喜歡用放克作為取樣的素材。

During the 1998-99 season of NBA, Sacramento Kings, one of the NBA teams, signed players on each position. The Kings included Vlade Divac, Peja Stojakovic, Chris Webber, and the rookie Jason Williams.
The brand-new Kings played amazing games. They showed the totally different offense style, especially the point guard Jason Williams. The Kings became the fastest team on offense in NBA.
The Kings played 27 wins and 23 loses games in this season. It’s the best result from the 1986-87 season of NBA. The first game in playoffs, the Kings had to play with Utah Jazz. The Kings and The Jazz had the same consociate, the power forward and the point guard. So this game called “generation alternation.”
Unfortunately, the Kings defeated because they didn’t have enough experience of the playoffs. But the fans believed, it is just a beginning of the Kings, they will defeat the Jazz after all.
